In compiling this Policy, we have taken steps to incorporate the standards and principles outlined in data collection and privacy frameworks, including the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”). This Policy describes
- The types of information we may collect from you or that you may provide when you visit our website (the “Website” or “Site”) as well as any websites and blogs directly owned by Motives Met (“our websites” or “our sites”), and
- Our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information.
Motives Met has certified to the US Department of Commerce that it adheres to the US Privacy Shield Principles. Per Article 45 of the GDPR, the European Commission recognizes that certifying under the EU-U.S.-Privacy Shield ensures an adequate data protection level. The data transfer to the USA does not require any specific authorization. (See also § 10, “Compliance and Cooperation with Regulatory Authorities.”)
Our Terms of Use also direct your use of our Services. If you have any questions or concerns after reviewing the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, please contact us at legal@motivesmet.com.
1. Data Collection
We do not collect personally identifiable information unless you voluntarily and knowingly provide it to us. When you voluntarily provide it, the information is stored until we delete it per our regular business practices or you request that we delete your information. Data that we collect are stored on secure servers in the United States.
2. Collection of Personal Information
If you create an account on our website, you will create user credentials, such as a user ID and password. All passwords are encrypted before being stored in our database. Motives Met cannot view passwords. Therefore, if you forget your password, we cannot send it to you via email or provide it to you by other means. If you forget your password, the “password reset” option on the website allows you to reset your password.
If you purchase any products or services through the website, your purchase is processed through a secure third-party payment processing system. Motives Met does not have access to or store any of your payment or financial information, including credit card numbers.
If you complete a survey offered by Motives Met, you will do so using a survey code that you have purchased directly from Motives Met or provided to you by the administrator of an account or another third party. Your survey results will only be sent to you if you are an individual survey taker or sent to you or an account administrator if you use a survey code provided by an organization having an account. Motives Met will not share your survey results with anyone else. Your survey results are stored on our secure servers until we delete them per our regular business practices or until you request that we delete your information.
If you use our website to take any surveys, we collect data via certain survey questions/responses that will help us conduct research (“Research Data”). Research Data will be used only in aggregate and does not include personally identifiable information.
3. Technical Information
When you use our website, Motives Met automatically receives and records technical information on our server logs from your browser or mobile platform, including your location, IP address, and cookie information. An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computing device when you use the Internet. IP addresses may help diagnose problems with our server, administer the website, analyze trends, track users’ movement, aggregate broad demographic information for us to improve the website, and deliver customized personalized content.
Some of the tools we use to automatically collect information about you include:
- Cookies. A “cookie” is a small data file transmitted from a website to your computer’s hard drive. Motives Met may use cookies on our websites to provide you with services and features. For example, we use cookies to make sure that you, and only you, can view your scores from our surveys and never contain any Personal Information about you. In some cases, we may also use cookies to monitor your interaction with our advertising campaigns. These cookies will be delivered by a third party website but will provide us with information when you visit our website. Motives Met uses session cookies, which do not stay on your computer after you close your browser or log off the site. Most browsers automatically accept cookies by default, but you can usually refuse cookies or selectively accept cookies by adjusting your browser’s preferences. Several features on our websites require cookies to operate correctly. Turning off cookies affects your experience on our website.
- Embedded Web Links. Links provided in our emails and some cases on third party websites may include tracking embedded in the link. The tracking is accomplished through a redirection system. The redirection system allows Motives Met to understand how the link is used.
- Web Beacons. A Web Beacon is an electronic image. Web Beacons can track certain things from your computer and report activity back to a web server, allowing us to understand some of your behavior. If you choose to receive emails from Motives Met, we may use Web Beacons to track your reaction to our emails. We may also use them to track if you click on the links and what time and date you do. Some of our marketing partners may use Web Beacons to track your interaction with online advertising banners.
- Do Not Track Disclosure. We do not track website visitors over time or across third-party websites to provide targeted advertising. Therefore, our website does not operate any differently when it receives Do Not Track (DNT) signals. The information we collect automatically is statistical data and does not include personal data.
A trusted third party partner is Google Analytics. The website sends aggregated, non-Personal Information to Google Analytics for providing Motives Met the ability to conduct technical and statistical analysis on the website’s performance. For more information on how Google Analytics supports the website and uses information sent from the website, please review Google’s privacy policy available at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
