See How We Helped the Seven Elements Team Thrive Together
We all want work to feel more human. We crave connection, meaning, and, honestly, a lot less of the robotic, soulless grind and surface-level “how’s the weather?” relationships. I also know how many leaders truly want to be better leaders—leaders who inspire, engage, and make their people feel valued. Yet most workplaces fall short because they don’t have the tools or space to make that kind of magic happen. That’s exactly why we built Motives Met—to turn well-intentioned hopes into real, human-centered action.
Orlena Nwokah Blanchard, CEO of Seven Elements (a social impact marketing firm), experienced our Motives Met Human Needs Assessment™ and workshop experience as part of a leadership retreat she was at and was blown away. So much so, she brought us in to give her team the same experience during their offsite.
She says, “It was eye-opening to see what motivates and drives your colleagues and how that collectively looks for the entire team. Where we see connection or alignment and where we see diversity and difference. That was really great, to be able to have conversations about that and give us something to consider as we think about the way we operate as a team, ensuring that we create a space where people feel their motives can be met.”
The Workshop Experience
During the workshop, each team member shared their personal “motive story,” revealing the most important human needs, or motives, that drive them and why, as discovered through taking our assessment. They liked learning about concepts like “need diversity” and “work happiness delusion.” Everyone clicked with the idea that meeting these motives is all about how we want to feel at work—and how we don’t want to feel, deepening emotional intelligence. People shared new insights they learned about one another and ways they were grateful for different people on the team.
We dove into motives like WORK-LIFE HARMONY, the guilt that can surround it, and explored how it uniquely showed up for each individual along with how to strengthen it. One lightbulb moment? FREE EXPRESSION was a top motive for almost everyone—sparking a rich discussion about what that said about the team dynamic. We also identified weaker areas and broke into groups to do exercises and brainstorm ways to strengthen those gaps, giving the team actionable steps forward. Below you can see their team’s unique results, the motives rising to the top for their collective like BELONGING, PURPOSE, and FLEXIBILITY.
Motives Met Benefits
Here are some of the big benefits Orlena shared from using our platform:
- Real Insights on Happiness & Motivation: You’ll finally know (not guess!) what really drives your team and WHY.
- Better Leadership Decisions: Equip with new knowledge to help you navigate decisions and tailor your leadership approach based on a true understanding of individual and collective motives.
- Seen & Heard: Team members feel you care about them in a human way, they feel valued and heard from having the space to share their story.
- It’s a Journey, Not a One-and-Done: Motives Met is an ongoing framework and roadmap, not just a one-time assessment, fostering long-term team growth and a new mindset.
- Elevate Inclusivity: Using the assessment and exercises with it is a game-changer to creating truly inclusive teams where motive diversity is embraced.
- Embracing the Tension: Differences in motives? Great. Learn how to live in this tension well together and make them work for you, not against you.
- Safe Space & Expert Facilitation: A space was created where people felt they could take off their “work armor” and honestly share, the facilitation was on point!
- Enhanced Team Connection & Communication: The meaningful discussions we had would not have happened if it were not for this workshop and people left feeling more genuinely connected on a deeper level.
- Actionable Ideas: Giving teams the opportunity to share and ideate around motive areas is powerful, to develop impactful ideas to move the needle in important areas.
- Real Results, Not Fluff: This is a tool for creating a team that’s genuinely more connected, happy, motivated, and ready to crush it.
Orlena says, “This experience made me realize it’s really important to be intentional about creating time and space for people to get to know one another, for people to build connection because that’s really where trust is built when we get to know each other on a human level.”
